~Guest blog from/for my friend Lisa in South Africa

After Zambia we took the famous Tazara Train to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania…but I never blogged about it.
Today I’m reblogging, but wordpress and blogspot don’t seem to allow cross-website reposting. I feel like the proverbial kid whose parents won’t talk to each other.
In the summer of 2010, before I’d started the wordpress version of this blog, K and I went to South Africa to visit and volunteer with our friend Lisa, who was working with an organization out of Pretoria. We fundraised, helped a little bit in a couple orphanages, and helped Lisa move to Zambia to set up a new program there. It was an amazing experience, and I am glad we had the chance to go see the wonderful work they were doing there.
Lisa has since moved on to work on starting her own program in South Africa, and I for one am extremely excited to follow its progress. Maybe if I’m lucky someday I’ll have some blogs about visiting her again and helping with her own project.

Women vendors somewhere in Tanzania. My favorite were the balls of clay that one eats to aid digestion. I had food poisoning, so tried a small one. Hard to tell if it helped by that point.
In the meantime, I am reblogging one of her posts from her blog. I hope you enjoy setting the world on fire.
I also recommend keeping an eye on her, and once she’s ready for it, donating. I can personally assure you that a donation to her will directly help people, not get lost in a bureaucratic limbo or pay for junk mail.
